Painting a Day

The painting a day movement was started by artist Duane Keiser.  Having painted some small oil paintings he wondered how he could sell them since galleries usually don't do so since the profit margins are so low.  Instead he threw a party offering up the paintings for a $100 a piece and sold them all.  Eventually, he began to post new small paintings on his website and sent e-mails to interested parties every time he completed and posted a new painting.  Later he started a blog dedicated to his daily small paintings and it became one of the most visited blogs.  He now auctions off his paintings on eBay starting at $100 and usually receives $200-300 or more.  This started a trend among artists and now more than 1500 blogs refer to doing a 'painting a day'.

Doing a painting a day takes a lot of discipline and forces you to paint every day no matter how you feel.  It could only help to make me a better artist so I decided to do so myself.  I started doing a painting a day on my last birthday (6-4-07).  Since I'm currently taking care of my sick mother, I set up a studio in the basement of our house that used to be my dad's workshop.  I've done mostly still lifes of objects that belonged to my parents and grandmother.  I've also completed some small landscapes of some county parks not far from my home.  I've has so much fun doing the paintings that I've accumulated a number of them so I've been forced to take some time off and set up this web site and a blog relating to my doing a painting a day.
